Greetings fellow Pearlanders.....
Hello everyone, I hope you'll consider me as your next choice for Mayor in our beloved Pearland. While I may not have all the answers, I believe God places in each one of us a uniqueness and mine happens to be passion for my community. I promise to give my utmost effort.
My aim is to listen and be as accessible as possible as your Mayor, I see myself as a collaborator and an Ambassador of Pearland.Since I will be retiring from the county, I will be your full time mayor! I have no issues fighting for Pearland and if it involves being on boards such as BAYTRAN, Brazoria County Alliance and others.... I accept the challenge.
I don't own land, except my homestead of course, and I no longer own my business of 25 years here in town. I don't have any contracts or conflicts with the city. I'm just a plain guy with an average mortgage, a strong work ethic, with no axe to grind and I pay taxes just like you! I have seen and lived Pearland's growth.
I've worked within or volunteered in almost every area of the city, including budgets, meetings, committees and more.I have years of service in Emergency Management, Police and Fire all which will bring my knowledge and working experience to the table and ready to go from day one.
I have served for decades on boards, committees and have actually started many as well. I know Roberts Rules of Order almost verbatim. Perfection may be unattainable, but together we can strive for solutions that make us proud. We can't eliminate crime entirely, nor can we stop growth or traffic and we may not always see eye to eye, but we can manage these challenges with reason. Michelle and I are excited and I thank you this opportunity and honor to serve.
Let's you and I work together to keep Pearland the "Community of Choice."
Your friend, Buck.

My Story
Buck was born just inside of Houston in 1961. Moving to Pearland in the 60’s, he and his family have deep roots in the community. Buck has two sons, Beau and Wyatt who all graduated Pearland ISD. Buck enjoys dancing, traveling, movies, antique stores, cooking and working in the yard and with wood crafts.
Buck’s father, B.J. Stevens, was a well-known police officer here in Pearland after retiring from Houston Police Department. Although Buck did not go directly into law enforcement, he was around the all aspects of it and lived it for many years as a young man growing up here.
After college, Buck did attend the police academy at Alvin Community College in 1979 but went to work in the petrochemical industry. Buck also worked for the City of Pearland in 1980's in their water and waste water treatment areas. In 1984, Buck was hired at the Hitchcock Police Department and later served 5 years with the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office. Buck also worked as a Fire Marshal for Brookside Village for 5 years. In 1996,
Buck was approached by a group of local businessmen and elected officials to consider running for the office of Constable. In 1995, Buck successfully unseated the incumbent and has remained in office since that time. Buck was also part-owner in a successful business in Pearland that still thrives today under new ownership.Since holding office, Buck has raised the bar for all Constables in Brazoria County by being innovative, progressive and a leader in the civil and administrative areas of law. Buck was one of the first 30 Constables in the State of Texas to receive a Civil Process Proficiency Certification and achieve the designation of CLI (Constable Leadership Institute)He has specialized in Civil Process and Warrant Service and has ensured that his entire staff has the latest in resources, training and equipment.
Buck instructs law enforcement officers across the state as an adjunct instructor with the Texas Justice Court Training Center. He is currently certified as a Master Peace Officer, Police Instructor, a Telecommunication Operator, Crime Prevention Specialist, Environmental Law Officer, Mental Health Certification and trained as a Hostage Negotiator and Police Chaplain. He also instructs in bike, helmet and child seat safety.Buck also served his community for over 28 years as a volunteer firefighter and retired in 2010 at the rank of Assistant Chief. He still holds the credentials of Advanced Certified Firefighter, Fire/Arson Investigator and is an adjunct instructor at Texas A&M Fire School. Buck also has over 20 years in Emergency Management.
During the time with the fire department, Buck spec'd new apparatus, proposed and managed budgets and made numerous presentations to city council. Two presentations set the stage for what is today. The first was a opportunity to acquire two "ladder-Quint" type apparatus that would be strategically placed at each end of the city for better fire protection, by using both general budget funds and PEDC revenue. These, along with a two-year project to get the ISO rating to a class 3 were his greatest achievements. This lowered insurance premiums for citizens and marked a professional fire department with quality performance standards and equipment.
The 2nd presentation was the era to move to a part-time combination fire department. At the time, the volunteers were able to maintain great coverage, weeknights and weekends, but daily alarm and medical calls in the 2nd fastest growing city in the state was overwhelming to those that worked and yet volunteered during the weekday hours. Stevens, along with other key fire officers, presented a budget to maintain coverage Monday thru Friday, 6a to 6p with part-time staffing.

When Buck was elected to office in 1997, it was a part-time, one-man office and served approximately 65,000 residents. The Constable office now employs twenty-two professional public servants. This took years of being innovative, forward-thinking and building collaboration among County Commissioners and departments. The office now serves over 200,000 residents. All employees are crossed trained for better efficiency and all maintain continuing education hours way above the minimum industry standards. In fact, many Constable offices across the state, call on Buck for suggestions and inspiration to meet the same standards. It goes without mention, that Buck is VERY active in his community!
From volunteer firefighter, creating , serving and supporting many non-profits, working for and serving on city task groups and committees. Connecting with many across Chambers, business engagements, and interactions. Buck brings a well rounded observation, history, success and enthusiasm to the office of Mayor.
